This Matrix typically starts as a fibre strand and is bonded together through high pressure and heat. The Matrix fibre is designed to specifically incorporate 200 denure bonded fiber structure, which provides a very high surface area of fibers. Further volume is added through plant roots and associated poly-synthetic baffles.
The unparalleled surface area of the Matrix's is tailored for microbial growth of organisms, particularly bacterial growth in the 1~10 micron range.
Overall, this specific material construction of the Floating Treatment Wetlands results in an effective surface area of approximately 250 m2 per meter of Matrix and a further 520 in the root hairs and poly-synthetic baffles. This equates to an impressive 770 m2 per meter of matrix.
This material is extremely inert and has been successfully tested for long-term durability. The materials is also coating in a UV resistant resin. (to EPA UV irradiation accelerated degradation standards) No adhesives have been used in the manufacture of the fiber matrix. The image below shows the matrix and roots hairs, Combined contain an enormous amount of surface area.
