Rotoroa Island is an island in the Hauraki Gulf that is historically known as the Salvation Army's Rehabilitation Island. The island is being developed as a conservation park with some lifestyle blocks becoming available for purchase on a license to occupy basis. The island had many huge Pine trees removed and mulched prior to plantings. All of the coastal escarpments are being revegetated back into native species. The climatic conditions of this planting are extremely harsh. The island is frequently lashed with salt laden winds. The proximity of island restoration work involves huge planning in logistics.
